How to Keep Your Boiler in Stourbridge Healthy in the Winter

Having a boiler that performs as it should during the winter months is something every home needs. Being without heat or hot water strips you of the creature comforts you crave in the colder months, which is why it’s important as a homeowner to keep your boiler in tip top condition. At Boiler on the Brink, we work with customers throughout Stourbridge to help keep their boilers healthy. As local Stourbridge boiler specialists, we’ve written the below guide to help you get your boiler ready for the coldest season of the year.

Top three ways to care for your boiler in Stourbridge

Bleed your radiators

Bleeding your radiators when they need it can hugely improve the heat circulation for your home in winter. When air becomes trapped in your radiators it can stop the heat reaching every part of it, causing cold spots or for them to barely heat at all. After bleeding your radiators with a radiator key, you’ll likely notice an instant difference in how they heat.

Check your boiler pressure

Checking your boiler pressure can offer insight into potential emerging problems with your heating system, and is something most people can do themselves. On the majority of modern boilers there is a pressure gauge with a green area showing where the pressure should lie (between 1 and 1.5 bars).

If the pressure on your boiler is higher, then it needs reducing, which you can do by bleeding your radiators, as above. If the pressure is lower, then it needs repressuring, through the filling loop on your boiler. If the pressure is fluctuating between high and low then you should get it checked by calling a trusted Gas Safe registered heating engineer.

Get your boiler serviced

Servicing your boiler is one of the best ways to keep it healthy. Arranging a service before the winter, such as at the end of summer, can be helpful so you’ll know it’s all ship-shape before the cold weather starts. When you get your boiler serviced, a Gas Safe registered engineer will inspect all the major parts, check everything is working safely and thoroughly clean inside to remove the build-up of dust and debris. This helps it perform as well as it should, and also gives the opportunity to deal with any minor issues before they become big ones.
