What is the Gas Safe Register?

The Gas Safe Register is a list of all UK businesses/engineers that have been trained and are fully qualified to work with gas appliances (boilers, cookers and fires). To be on the register, an engineer must stick to strict guidelines regarding health and safety and must maintain extremely high standards of work. 
The Register regularly carries out inspections of jobs recently serviced to check that the business/engineer has performed to the high standards that are expected. If not, they have the register has the right to remove the business/engineer from the register or suspend them for a certain amount of time. Regular work-standard checks ensures that a customers’ safety is always put first!

Things to know as a homeowner...

By being on the register, engineers are required to carry their membership card as identification and they are also required to show it when asked by a homeowner. So next time you get a new gas boiler installed or your boiler serviced, be sure to ask to see the engineers Gas Safe membership card as proof to ensure that you're in safe hands. 
Additionally, if
 you have recently booked a boiler service with an engineer or a boiler repair (or any other gas work) and you are worried about whether it has been carried out correctly and safely, you can get in touch with the register and they will check it out for you; it's always best to be sure!
