The Advantages of a Megaflo in Your Home in Wolverhampton

If you’re looking to upgrade your boiler or have little choice in the matter because your old one has packed up, you’ll probably be feeling a tad confused right now.

We really do understand this. There’s a lot to do when it comes to boiler shopping and often not a lot of time to do it in. And as well as choosing the type, size and brand of boiler that’s right for your home, you may also need to consider the hot water cylinder you’ll have installed to accompany it. While combi boilers are all-in-one units, if you have a regular or system boiler then you’ll need a hot water cylinder too.

At Bog Standard Plumbing and Heating we install central heating systems on a weekly basis, so know all there is to know about boilers, cylinders and everything else connected to them. We’ve written the following post about the Megaflo cylinder, as it is such a great choice for many homeowners and is built to last.

More about Megaflo

A Megaflo cylinder is an unvented hot water cylinder, designed and built by trusted manufacturer, Heatre Sadia. It’s made of high-quality steel and can work alongside a boiler or alone through an immersion coil.

A Megaflo is a crucial part of your central heating system, and through it you can store hot water that you need throughout the day, without it going cold. Because of its size, it’s able to hold large quantities of water, meeting the demands of busy households who run showers, baths and kitchen sinks regularly.

What are the benefits of having a Megaflo in your home?

While the Megaflo brings with it many advantages, these are its main plus points to consider:

  • You can store a large volume of hot water
  • It works without a cold water tank. This saves storage space, especially if you are considering a loft conversion in the future. It also makes your central heating system easier to maintain as it only has two main components rather than three.
  • It provides strong water pressure, even if two or more taps are running at the same time.
  • On this note, it allows multiple hot water sources to be used at once, so your shower won’t go freezing cold if someone runs the hot water tap in the kitchen!
  • A Megaflo cylinder usually has a warranty of approximately 25 years
  • It comes with an immersion switch, meaning if your boiler breaks, you can still get hot water.
  • The Megaflo is designed with an auto pressure release, an important and potentially very useful safety feature.

Are Megaflos energy-efficient?

Because of their quality build and stainless steel materials, Megaflos are thought to retain heat better than some other cylinders. What this means in practice is that water stored in a Megaflo may stay hot for longer than it would in a different cylinder. This certainly makes them more energy-efficient than they would be otherwise, reducing the chance of you needing to reheat water which would waste energy.

Using less energy is better for our planet, as it means fewer CO2 emissions being released into the Earth’s atmosphere. It can also save you money, as the less energy you use the cheaper your heating bills will be.

Who should install your Megaflo system?

A Megaflo should always be installed by a qualified heating engineer. While some projects in the home can be attempted by a general handyperson or done via DIY, all parts of your central heating system should be installed professionally.

Only Gas Safe registered engineers are qualified and experienced enough to work with your gas central heating system, of which your Megaflo cylinder is part of. If in doubt, check to see your engineer’s Gas Safe registration, look at their reviews online and ask about their experience of central heating systems and Megaflo cylinders.
